Mira Costa’s girls volleyball team won fourth place in the Tournament of Champions in Santa Barbara on Friday and Saturday.
The Mustangs defeated both Westview and Corona Del Mar 3-0 on Friday in their first and second game of the tournament. Costa then fell to both Torrey Pines 3-1 and Archbishop Mitty 3-1 on Saturday.
“We played well with energy and enthusiasm but we couldn’t play above them in the game,” senior setter Britt Bommer said.
Costa, 23-3 overall and is still 8-1 in Bay League, competes against Redondo High School in a Bay League game on Tuesday. If Costa beats Redondo then they will be Bay League champions and will advance into CIF, according to Bommer.
“We’ll have to come out with a lot of energy because we beat them last time, they’re the underdog with nothing to lose so they’ll fight hard,” sophomore middle blocker Caroline McQuiggan said.
