Mira Costa’s boys water polo team fell to Loyola 8-2 on Saturday at home with top performance by senior attacker Christian Thornton.
Throughout the whole game, Costa’s offense struggled and gave the ball away multiple times, leading the opponents to score. In the second half, Thornton scored two goals from shots that were from a long distance. According to sophomore attacker Alex Nahabed, Costa played poorly everywhere.
“We were slow to the ball, turned the ball over, and just played sloppy waterpolo in general,” Nahabed said.
Costa, now 19-9 overall, will play their first California Interscholastic Federation game this Wednesday visiting Corona Del Mar. According to Nahabed, the team needs to play strong offensively to be successful.
“To be successful, we must shoot the ball on net, not turn it over, and also be first to the ball and win battles,” Nahabed said.
