The Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the transition from PowerSchool, the current student information system, to Aeries for the next school year at its Nov. 2 board of trustees meeting.
The district has been using PowerSchool for four years, and continues to face challenges in the areas of master scheduling, transcript production, and California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System data collection and reporting, MBUSD Assistant Superintendent Dr. Dawnalyn Murakawa-Leopard said.
Aeries is a web-based platform with well-developed parent and student portals, a strong master scheduling system, and integrated online student registration features, Murakawa-Leopard said.
“I think the transition will be a valuable change,” Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said. “Although it has no change in my work life, I know that it will greatly profit other people, such as the counselors.”
According to Murakawa-Leopard, the PowerSchool contract will remain in use until the end of the school year. The district will implement Aeries on July 1, after teachers and administrators undergo four optional phases of training.
“I am extremely excited for Aeries to be implemented in the upcoming school year,” Murakawa-Leopard said. “I hope it will be beneficial for students, teachers, and everyone who will utilize it.”
