Mira Costa’s girls soccer team defeated Santa Monica High School 4-0 Wednesday night at Waller Stadium in their first non-conference game. The Mustangs were led by senior forward Emmie Farber and junior midfielder Genevieve Watkins.
Farber scored the opening goal off of a through pass, beating Santa Monica’s keeper to her left in a break away. Just minutes later, Watkins played the ball out wide to her left and recieved a cross back into the box, where she was able to find the back of the net giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead going into half.
“The team played great today, especially considering this was our first game,” Watkins said. “We did a great job of moving the ball around and keeping possession for a majority of the time.
The Mustangs now, 1-0, will play the El Segundo High School Eagles on Friday at home in another non conference matchup. According to Watkins, as long as the team plays the way they did today, they should hope for a similar result to Wednesday’s game.”
“It’s always a great feeling to start the season off on a positive note,” Watkins said. “There are still a few kinks we need to work out this week, as we are still a relatively new team, but I have no doubt we can continue our momentum from today.”
