Mira Costa’s girls basketball team narrowly defeated Foothill High School 46-43 during the Segerstrom Holiday Tournament on Tuesday. The game was close, but Costa’s lead made it hard for Foothill to make a comeback.
The first quarter was close, but Costa was able to take the lead by one, 14-13. The two teams went back and forth in the second quarter, but the Mustangs were able to overpower the Knights. The teams were tied 35-35 in the third quarter, but Costa was able to end the game 46-43.
“Our team ran a lot of successful plays,” said senior Allie Navarette. “We hustled for loose balls and made free throws when the game was close.”
Costa’s overall record is now 3-4. The Mustangs will next play in the Segerstrom Holiday Tournament against Beckman High School on Wednesday.
“To prepare for the next game we are going to work on closing out on shooters and boxing out,” Navarette said.
