Healthy is the way to go for Mira Costa sophomore Alexandra Bedingfield, who shares photos of homemade and healthy recipes to the followers of her food Instagram page.

Bedingfield started her own Instagram food account called @lalabeeskitchen on Aug. 19 to share pictures of the plant-based foods she makes and purchases. Along with photos of food, she also includes recipes as well as healthy lifestyle tips in the beginning of her account. She aims to create an “organic theme” for her page, which is fostered by photos of food in a natural setting, Bedingfield said.

“I started this account over the summer so when I went back to school, I could maintain my healthy lifestyle,” Bedingfield said. “I had the time so I thought, ‘why not make this so I can save the recipes and share them to keep me motivated?’”
Bedingfield tries to incorporate plants and vegetables into her account, though that does not keep her from eating meat when she wants it, she said. But by focusing on mostly a plant-based diet, she is able to find healthy alternatives to unhealthy meals.
“My favorite recipe I’ve tried is the avocado brownies that I made,” Bedingfield said. “It’s so unique to be able to make a dessert from a plant-based substance and create a healthy meal. I would aim to make something healthy that makes me feel good inside rather than something that is unhealthy and that can hurt your body.”
Bedingfield currently has 243 followers and hopes to continue growing her page by posting new recipes. She also aims to incorporate more videos that show the step-by-step process for making various foods in order to show her followers how easy it is to live a healthy lifestyle, Bedingfield said. In the future, she will consider starting a YouTube channel to post these videos.
“I hope to impact others with this page by inspiring and engaging other people who don’t have this lifestyle but want to,” Bedingfield said. “I am able to help people by giving them easy access to recipes so they can give it a shot.”
