Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Mount Miguel High School 55-45 in the So Cal Holiday Prep Classic on Tuesday in San Diego. Costa kept its lead throughout the game and managed to beat Miguel by 10 points.
Costa took an early lead during the first quarter, 11-8, by the second quarter, the teams continued to fight, but Costa maintained the lead. In the second half, the Mustangs’ early lead made it difficult for the Matadors to make a comeback, ending the game 55-45.
“We were able to score a lot early in the game,” junior Haley Herdman said. “Gaining a lead like that helped us boost our confidence for the rest of the game.”
Costa’s overall record is now 7-4. The Mustangs will next play in the the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic against Huntington Beach High School next Wednesday in San Diego.
“It is important to play every game with the same mentality,” Herdman said. “We always need to play as hard as we can and not worry so much about the talent of the opponent.”
