Mira Costa’s girls basketball team defeated Palos Verdes High School 46-22 on Friday at home. Costa played a tough defense and kept its lead throughout the game.
Costa started off strong in the first half, while Palos Verdes struggled to score. In the second half however, the Mustangs were able to keep the lead and hold off Palos Verdes with their defense. According to senior Allie Navarette, the team ran a lot of successful plays.
“We all began hustling really hard in the second half,” junior guard Haley Herdman said. “I think that we did a good job of keeping our lead.”
Costa’s overall record is now 10-7 and 2-0 in Bay League. The Mustangs will play against Oak Ridge on Saturday at El Dorado Hills High School. According to Navarette, the team will be working on more help defense and less turnovers when breaking the press.
“It is important to play every game with the same mentality,” Herdman said. “We always need to play as hard as we can and not worry so much about the talent of the opponent.”
