Costa’s girls soccer team avenged their scoreless tie against Peninsula High School with a 5-0 win on Wednesday at Waller Stadium with goals coming from five different players on the Mustang side.
Goals from senior midfielders Viviana Villacorta and Sydney Wible, forwards Emmie Farber and Delaney Whittet, and junior midfielder Genevieve Watkins lifted the Mustangs over the Panthers. Watkins says that their success was because of their capability to make the best of scoring opportunities.
“We played really well today, especially with perfecting our final passes as well as converting our early chances to take the lead,” Watkins said. “We dominated the game, especially in the first half, and it just feels great to get a positive result after misfortune in our last meeting.”
The Mustangs, now 12-4-2 overall, and 4-3-1 in Bay League, will seek revenge against Redondo Union on Thursday after losing 6-2 in their last appearance. Watkins says if they can play with the same mentality as today, they should be able to find success.
“Last time we played them it was a nightmare,” Watkins said. “However, we have only improved from that point and want nothing more than to get revenge against our rival in our final Bay League match.”
