Mira Costa’s girls soccer team found revenge against rival Redondo Union at Waller Stadium on Thursday with a 3-2 win, after trailing by a goal early into the first half.

The Mustangs were able to find a goal before the half from freshman forward Grace Watkins to tie the game at 1-1. Watkins was able to find the back of the net for the second time, before conceding another. In the closing minutes, senior midfielder Viviana Villacorta was able to find a goal, giving the Mustangs a win.

I believe that today we played very well due to the fact we were all moving as a unit and were as active on the ball as off,” Watkins said. “We put in 110% effort which, I believe, really allowed us to break down Redondo and keep them on their heels.”

The Mustangs, now 13-4-2 overall, will conclude Bay League at 5-3-2 and a third place finish. The Mustangs will play their first California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoff game on Thursday against an undetermined opponent.

“Overall, it was a great game,” Watkins said. “If the team plays like they did today, it will be fun to see how well we can do in CIF.”
