The Mira Costa High School girls basketball team played Edison on February 16th in the second round of CIF. Junior Kira Escovar looks for an open teammate to pass the ball to after the opposing team hit the ball out of bounce. The girls basketball game was played at home in the Fischer gym at 6 pm on Thursday. Junior Kelli Toyooka holds the ball away from the opposing team while looking for an open teammate to pass the ball to. Toyooka was the point guard during this game so she brought the ball down the court and looked for open players. Junior Kira Escovar shoots the ball after driving past the other team towards the basket. This play resulted in Escovar scoring 2 points for the Mustangs, which helped Costa keep their lead against Edison. Junior Kelli Toyooka shoots the ball during the second half against Edison. Toyooka was able to shoot even though the other team was guarding her, allowing her other teammates to get the rebound.
