Mira Costa’s boys tennis team defeated South Torrance High School 18-0 on Tuesday in a home game. The top players were junior Evan Fortier, sophomore Kyle Sillman, senior Tommy Kendall, and sophomore Matthew Poh.
Costa dominated in all the matches throughout the day. In singles, Fortier won his three sets 6-0, 6-1, and 6-1 and Poh won two sets 6-0 and 6-2. Kendall won his two sets as well 6-2 and 6-0. Sillman continued the streak with partner sophomore Alex Fry, winning their two sets 6-1 and 6-0.
“Overall I think our team played very well on Tuesday,” Poh said. “We swept South Torrance 18-0, so it showed our dominant performance.”
The Mustangs, now 1-0 overall, will next play Santa Monica High School on Wednesday at home. Sillman said the team will win if it comes out representing Costa and has grace and eloquence.
“I think if we play just as we did in his match, then we will perform successfully throughout the season,” Poh said.
