The Mira Costa hockey team defeated South Torrance High School, 4-2, at the Toyota Sports Center on Tuesday. Despite the absence of senior forward Bryce Tournat and senior defenseman Connor Wohl, the Mustangs were able to maximize their offensive drives which had led to the victory over the Spartans.
“We had a great team effort, and our chemistry has significantly improved since last game,” freshman Harry Meisel said. “Our goalie, Donovan Henry, had a very clutch game allowing us to get the win.”
To begin the game, Junior Malcolm Bohan scored a goal, giving the Mustangs an early lead. Junior Roberto Kampfner scored in the second period, bringing the score to 2-1, Mustangs lead. Finally, in the third period, Bohan and Meisel both scored to close the game at a 4-2 victory.
“We did very well at attempting to get the puck to the net but we struggled on defense as well as making complete passes,” freshman Lukas Balen said. “I think if we improve on our defense and working as a team in general, we can really improve and get another win next time.”
The Mira Costa hockey team is 1-1 overall and will next play against the Manhattan Beach Varsity 2001 team on Tuesday, April 4th at the Toyota Sports Center.
