The Mira Costa student body elected 13 students to both grade-level and school-wide Associated Student Body positions during second period on April 5.
A total of 31 students ran for the available positions, including ASB Board president, vice president, secretary and treasurer and grade-level presidents, vice presidents and secretary/treasurers for the three returning classes. All grade levels, excluding the senior class, voted for the positions.
“I am so overjoyed to be elected, and I can’t wait for the year to come,” ASB President-Elect Georgia Wedbush said. “Being in ASB for the past three years has really showed me how amazing Costa is and how important it is to be involved throughout the school as much as possible.”
For the position of Sophomore secretary/treasurer, Ella Lee and Kate Condren tied. To break the tie, ASB hosted a run-off election in room 41 on April 6 for a re-vote, and Condren won the election.
“I’m so honored that I won the election, and I have so much respect for Ella,” Condren said. “The election was so much fun. I loved handing out pens and meeting new people in my grade.

Student-candidates began campaigning a week prior to the election. The campaigns included passing out candy, wearing pins and T-shirts, and hanging posters around campus.
“I really enjoyed seeing all of the candidates dressing up in green and gold,” sophomore and Junior President-Elect Malcolm Kluth said. “I am really excited about the results because I get to work with many of my friends and improve the school.”
All campaigning took place on campus; however, students also advertised their campaigns through social media by creating videos and posting photos in order to promote their campaigns. Several students used Snapchat geotags to campaign.
Students who did not receive positions through the election are still able to be in ASB through an interviewing process that will begin in the Spring.
“I am excited for next year and relieved elections are over,” sophomore and ASB Treasurer-elect Max Haber said. “Everyone who ran did such an amazing job, and I’m looking forward to another year.”
