From behind the podium to behind the net, senior Kevin Pinkerton springs to academic and extracurricular success.
Pinkerton has been heavily involved in his school and community throughout his high school career, most notably through his involvement with Costa’s Model United Nations program and the boys volleyball teams for all four years, he said.
“I am extremely honored to be nominated for Student of the Year,” Pinkerton said. “It is great to be recognized for all the hard work I have put into my studies and extracurriculars.”
Outside of school, Pinkerton has competed on Rockstar, a club volleyball team, for five years and has participated in the Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguard program every summer for seven years.
“I think the combination of my heavy involvement in school programs, extracurriculars and academic classes is what led me to be nominated for student of the year,” Pinkerton said. “It is really humbling to be recognized for all my work.”

Pinkerton says his favorite class throughout his four years is Advanced Placement European History, which he took his sophomore year. Although it was a very challenging class, Pinkerton said he enjoyed the material because it was so in-depth.
“AP European History always kept me engaged because I found the material to be super interesting,” Pinkerton said.
Pinkerton credits much of his academic and extracurricular success to the school, as it has given him opportunities to get involved in a variety of activities, he said.

“I think that Mira Costa has taught me important critical thinking skills and given me the knowledge I need to be successful in my future,” Pinkerton said. “I received opportunities at Costa that I would not have been able to get anywhere else.”
Pinkerton said he has grown a lot not only as a student, but as a person too throughout his high school career.
Pinkerton will be attending Georgetown Univeristy, and looks forward to pursuing economics, political science, international studies or business at a four-year university starting this fall.
“The most important thing I have learned during my school career thus far is that you need to control what you can and let go of that you cannot,” Pinkerton said. “Effort is a lot, but you can’t always have things your way.”
