The Mira Costa hockey team tied the Wiseburn club team, 4-4, at the Toyota Sports Center on Thursday. Freshman Harry Meisel was the top performer of the game, putting up two points on the scoreboard for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs remained scoreless in the first period with Wiseburn taking the lead early. In the beginning of the second period, an assist from freshman Lukas Balen led to a goal from Meisel. Shortly after, Meisel managed to retrieve the puck after a turnover, scoring another goal and converting the score to a 2-1, Mustang lead. Freshman Myles Bazoian and Junior Malcolm Bohan both scored within the remainder of the game to bring the final score to 4-4 tie.

“We were very resilient as a team and we did not let the score affect our play,” Meisel said. “Our comeback was unbelievable and we could not have done it if it was not for our strong goaltending and full team effort.”

The Mira Costa hockey team is now 1-4-2 overall and will face off against the Manhattan Beach Varsity All Stars 2003 club team at the Toyota Sports Center on next Tuesday. With the end of the regular season approaching, the Mustangs are in pursuit for capturing a playoff spot.

“We have to win the next two games even if we do not make the playoffs so we can show that Mira Costa has a good hockey team and our opponents better look out for us next season,” Balen said.
