Mira Costa’s Varsity Volleyball team takes the court for warmup around 7 p.m. on May 2, 2017. Costa’s varsity was recently defeated at Redondo while Costa’s Frosh and JV teams won.
Costa’s varsity lines up as the announcer introduces Costa and Redondo’s players. After warming up for about 15 minutes, the teams get ready for a close and intense game.
Costa varsity huddles up and does their routinely chant prior to the start of the game. The chant gets the boys riled up and ready for the game.
Varsity’s #3 Jack Walmer steps up to the line to serve. The crowd quieted down and suspense filled the room. The serve was good and Costa won the point.
Costa huddles up for a timeout during the second period of the game. They are currently currently trailing Redondo by one point, which they need to make a comeback.
The crowd goes crazy as Costa makes a comeback in the second set. Costa needs one point to seal their win, so traditionally, the crowd holds up a “one” to symbolize the one point. Costa won the set.
Costa is one point away from winning the second set. Once again, the pressure builds and the crowd gets pumped hoping for a win. Everyone cheered and held up their “ones”.
Costa leads against Redondo in the third set by 3 points. They need one more point to seal their win against Redondo, so there is an immense amount of pressure on both teams.
The game is now close in the third set with Costa and Redondo tied at 24. Whoever wins the next two points will finish the set with a win. The pressure is overwhelming for both Redondo and Costa.
Costa wins the third set, leaving them with a 3-0 sweep and a successful win. The team and the crowd races to the court to celebrate Varsity’s amazing and memorable win.
