The Mira Costa girls golf team swept Redondo Union High School by a score of 210-259 at Alondra Golf Course on Thursday afternoon, with a top performance from sophomore Shani Waite by a score of 39. Waite nailed the long-distance shots and shot consistent scores throughout the game.
Juniors Erica Skinner and Isabella Walker also contributed to the win with scores of 40 and 42, respectively. The course conditions were good and the team went out there with confidence, said Waite.
“I’m proud because our team had a tough week last week and managed to bounce back at this week’s games,” Waite said. “We as a team bounced back and will continue to bring in the good energy.”
The Mustangs are now 3-1 overall and will next play against Palos Verdes High School at Chester Washington Golf Course on Tuesday. With a three win streak, the team is hoping to take on Palos Verdes and continue to carry its momentum into the upcoming South Bay Girls Classic League, said Waite. Skinner believes their scores have to be more consistent to compete with teams that have more experience than they do.
“After winning CIF 2 years ago, we are in a stage of rebuilding the team and improving throughout the season,” Skinner said. “Altogether, our team has a lot less experience than teams we will play later in the season, so we have to put in more work and practice time.”
