The Mira Costa girls volleyball team defeated Palos Verdes high school 3-1 on Thursday at home in the annual senior night and Dig Pink match of the season. The top performers of the match included senior Kelli Barry for her saves and passes that made Costa’s defense impenetrable.
Costa was unable to get points up on the board losing the first set 25-17. In the second set, Costa picked up the intensity winning 25-11. The team was able to continue their success leading them to win the third set 25-21 and the fourth set 25-23.
“After we lost the first set we just came out with way more intensity and we were in the same situation when we played them away,” said sophomore Kate Reilly.
The Mustangs’ overall record is 7-3 and 5-1 in Bay league and prepare to play Inglewood at Inglewood high school next Tuesday. The team hopes for a win to try to snatch another Bay League title.
“Our team captains Alex Kelly and Kelli Barry have done a great job this season being a voice for our team,” said Coach Austin Rester. “Karina, Kate Hoffman, Emily Dubinsky, and Lea show up everyday to practice and work really hard, while Emily Dubinsky is kind of like our team’s spirit animal.”
