The Mira Costa girls golf team competed against South Torrance High School in the Bay League Finals at Harding Golf Course on Wednesday, winning its individual matches by a total score of 206-243. The Mustangs were led to an easy victory with top performances from sophomores Shani Waite and Erica Skinner, junior Klara Nagy and senior Delilah Gunn, who will advance to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championships next week.
Beating other competitive players from West Torrance, South Torrance and Peninsula, Waite placed third with a score of 78 and Nagy followed with an 80, placing fourth in the league. Gunn and Skinner each put up solid performances in their own right, placing sixth and eighth with scores of 81 and 82, respectively. Although they played in individual leagues, the team chemistry was good, according to Skinner.
“All seven girls played with confidence today,” Skinner said. “I’m glad that we’re nearing towards the end of the season with decent scores and plays.”
Costa’s overall record is now 11-4 and 5-1 in Bay League. The team next faces Peninsula in the last Varsity Bay League match of the season at Chester Washington Golf Course on Thursday. Gunn said she hopes to finish strong as they play against their biggest rival Peninsula tomorrow.
“I’m very satisfied with the results,” Gunn said. “Winning four spots is really an astonishing accomplishment for the team and we’re all looking forward to rematching against Peninsula.”
