After a successful season and a Bay League title, the Mira Costa girls golf team competed in the CIF Individual Regional Tournament at Soule Park Golf Course on Monday. The team played against other local schools including Wilson and Kennedy High School.

Of the four players, sophomores Erica Skinner and Shani Waite, junior Klara Nagy and senior Delilah Gunn, only two of them remain to compete for the CIF Individual Championship on Nov. 2 at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard, California. In this year’s CIF Individual Tournament, the top 36 players advanced to the CIF Individual Finals, and among these golfers were Waite and Nagy.

Waite placed herself amongst the top 36 players with an overall score of 74, shooting one birdie, two bogies and multiple pars throughout the course. Today was a great day for Mira Costa Girls Golf and the girls played amazing, said Waite.

“All of us played very well today and I’m happy that I played aggressive,” Waite said. “Shooting a 74 was refreshing and I’m grateful for advancing to the next round. Overall, we had a great time in Ojai and I’m very proud of my team!”

Nagy completed the course with a score of 76, successfully continuing her momentum. She’s glad that she qualified for the next round, said Nagy.

“I had a couple of bad holes, but I had enough birdies to make up for it today,” Nagy said. “I hope that I will play well in the next round.”

Although she failed to advance to the next CIF Finals, Skinner is satisfied that she got to play alongside competitive players and end the season with good record.

“It’s great to have two costa girls advance to sectionals,” Skinner said. “As a team, we have progressed a lot in the last few weeks and I can’t wait for team finals next week.”

Costa will compete as a team in the CIF-SS Division Team Championships on Nov. 30 at Los Robles Greens Golf Course in Thousand Oaks. The top three teams from each of the four division championship events will qualify for the CIF-WSCGA Foundation Southern California Girls’ Golf Championship on Thursday, Nov. 2.
