Mira Costa’s Associated Student Body and Helping Educate Acts of Respect Club encouraged students to participate in Random Acts of Kindness Week, which began Monday and ended today, starting with students send- ing appreciation texts and emails to teachers, friends and family.

The H.E.A.R.T. Club and ASB created posters promoting student participation and posted them around Costa’s campus.

“Texting my family and friends is a great way to let them know I care about them,” ASB Commis- sioner of Entertainment and junior London Foster said.

T he H.E.A.R.T. Club encour- aged students on Tuesday to commit random acts of kindness for

others on “Pay It Forward Day.” Acts of kindness included mak- ing sure to say thank you to others, mentoring someone, helping carry heavy objects for others and giv- ing compliments to one’s friends

and family.

“This gives students the chance to let their peers know how much they mean to them,” ASB Com- missioner of Public Relations and junior Rochelle Scott said. “We are so lucky to go to a school that has a week dedicated to being kind to others.”

Students donated supplies, such as kleenex, pencils, paper and ink to their teachers on Wednesday across campus.

According to English teacher Lindsay Valbuena, student dona- tions are helpful because most teachers have to buy their own classroom supplies, so even small donations help a lot.

“I wanted to show my teachers how much I appreciate all of their hard work by bringing in sup- plies,” junior Braden Olsen said. “All of the teachers are really ap- preciative of any donations that they receive from students, so I was glad I could contribute.”

T he H.E.A.R.T. Club had students write letters yesterday to children at the Miller’s Children Hospital in Long Beach, California.

Students wrote letters of good wishes to the children during their recovery. They then dropped them off at the main office, and the H.E.A.R.T. Club delivered students’ letters yesterday and today.

“I took advantage of this opportunity to brighten someone’s day who needs it,” ASB Student Involvement Commissioner and senior Natalia Givot said. “I hope other students took advantage of this opportunity as well.”

Students donated clothes, hygiene products and other supplies for men, women and children today in the main office in order to finish off Random Acts week.

“The main goal was to spread respect around campus and give back to the community.”– Rachel Johoski H.E.A.R.T. Club President

The H.E.A.R.T. Club and ASB will deliver all of the donations to two local shelters in the South Bay to help men, women and children in need.

“The main goal of the week was to spread respect around campus and give back to the community,” H.E.A.R.T. Club President and junior Rachel Johoske said.
