The Mira Costa Art Department hosted Art Week at lunch in which students and staff participated in various art-related activities and attended information sessions.

On Monday, students had the chance to tie-dye white shirts dur- ing lunch in room 62. Participants were required to bring their own white shirts, while the art room supplied the remaining materials.

“It was great idea for the art department to host an event in which students can create their own unique items,” junior Ella Trodd said.

The Mira Costa Art Department hosted an information session in room 62 on Tuesday at lunch regarding its AdvancedPlacement Studio Art course.

AP Studio Art Teacher Katherine Heredia spoke to interested students at the session. Heredia gave a general overview of the class, explained what is required in order to apply for the class and how students can join next year.

“The AP Studio Art class information session was very helpful for me since I am interested in applying for the class next year,” junior Charlotte Samuels said.

On Wednesday, Heredia led a screen printing activity in which students and staff could bring a piece of clothing on which to print a design.

Students drew and created all of the designs, Heredia said. Participants picked out a color and Heredia manually printed them on the shirts or jackets. Costa art teacher Amber Dixon helped students and washed the screens.

“It was amazing to see that [students] are going to be repre- senting visual arts now whether they are wearing a t-shirt or talk- ing about it,” Dixon said.

Dixon and Heredia held an in- formation session for AP Art History and hosted an Art History Movie Night on Thursday.

Dixon discussed the requirements in order to register for the art history course and what the class would consist of. She also screened the movie “Loving Vin- cent” in room 109 at 5 p.m., because students recommended the movie, Dixon said.

“[The] ‘Loving Vincent’ movie is about [Vincent] Van Gogh and his artwork and it coming to life, which I thought was neat and cool,” Dixon said.

Students across campus will join together to conclude art week with a group painting ses- sion in room 109 at lunch today.

Although I am not currently enrolled in art, I think having any- one be able to paint today is a great way to try something new.”

The art room will provide all materials for the group painting. Students are also allowed to choose their own colors for their paintings.

“I’m so excited to go paint in the art room,” senior Connor Bergin said. “Although I am not enrolled in art, I think allowing people to paint today is a great way to try something new.”
