Senior Aaron Kissel is beginning a new chapter in his book of adventures after committing to Bowdoin College for the next four years.
Kissel recently was accepted into and committed to Bowdoin College, a small, private liberal arts college located in Brunswick, Maine. He is currently undeclared but plans on studying psychology or economics in his future.
“I am beyond excited to spend the next four years at Bowdoin,” Kissel said. “It’s the perfect fit for me and I couldn’t picture myself anywhere else.
Kissel is a well known adventure enthusiast in the Manhattan Beach community. His greatest accomplishments vary from traversing the Waddington Range in Northern British Columbia, climbing through the Miter Basin up to Mount Langley near Lone Pine, and skiing down the Unterstockhorn in Switzerland.
“Each new experience provides a new perspective on the world for me,” Kissel said. “I am always eager to push myself to new heights and goals uncover hidden gems throughout the world.”
Surrounded by nature Maine, he is able to do alpine skiing within an hour of Bowdoin. Kissel also plans to climb Mount Katahdin, the tallest peak in Maine. Additionally, there are a wide variety of trips that he can participate in or lead through the Bowdoin Outing Club, which does backcountry skiing, canoeing, fishing, sailing, and climbing, according to Kissel.
“I’ve always wanted to go to Bowdoin because it is the perfect environment with high level academics and unlimited outdoor opportunity,” Kissel said.
Aside from his other planned activities, Kissel has a bucket list comprised of lobster diving, cross-country skiing, backpacking, and ice climbing that he hopes to complete during his time at Bowdoin.
“The environment at Bowdoin is perfect for me because it combines a mountain terrain for climbing and skiing, and an ocean for diving and water activities, some of my favorite hobbies,” Kissel said.
