Smith travels to volunteer in Mongolia

Mira Costa junior Payton Smith traveled to Mongolia to explore the culture and participate in the community service.

From July 25 to August 15, Smith went on service trip to Mongolia. She traveled to Ulaanbaatar, Sogoog and camped near the Russian River with her volunteer group. Smith helped members at the Sogoog village with fixing their houses, distributing food supplies, and teaching English.

“While I was there and especially now, I realize how grateful I should be for all the things I have,” Smith said. “[When] coming into contact with people who have less than we do here in Manhattan Beach, it inspired me to want to do more for other people and for people in that country.”
