West Torrance High School held its annual wrestling match on Nov. 17 at West Torrance High School, where Mira Costa’s wrestling students had the opportunity to compete in matches.
”My favorite part of the tournament was getting to see wrestling from different schools,” freshman Leona Pickard said. “We got to see what worked best for the other schools so we can improve for further matches.”
Mira Costa took home 6th place out of 30 teams. The top three placers from Mira Costa were Sophomore Andrew Chaney, Junior Greg Sevaston, and Junior Taro Iyadomi. Chaney took 2nd at 152 pounds, Sevaston took 3rd at 145 pounds, and Iyadomi took 3rd at 170 pounds.
“I got one win and two losses,” Freshman wrestler, Ben Henschel said. “I loved getting to be with my team and going to my first meet for a new sport.”
West Torrance Tournament was Mira Costa’s first tournament of the season, and their next tournament is at Westminster High School on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
“Everyone has something different they have to work on.” Pickard said. “everyone has something different they have to work on.”
