“Rocketman” showcases Elton John’s astounding journey to success

“Rocketman” is an incredibly engaging and exciting film that beautifully tells the story of the infamous American singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer, Elton John.

“Rocketman” is full of emotion, jumping from loneliness and sorrow to joy and success. The film powerfully depicts the hardships and successes of Elton John’s life while touching the audience with its raw storyline.

The film illustrates how Elton John became a legend in the music industry because of his impressive singing and songwriting. The film offers an inside look on events in Elton John’s personal life, such as coming out as homosexual and his struggle with alcohol and drug abuse. The story begins with Elton John as a young boy, as he discovers his love for rock and playing the piano. At seventeen years old, he collaborates with a lyricist named Bernie Taupin, which begins their very successful partnership that impacts the entire music industry.

Taron Egerton starred as Elton John; Jamie Bell played Bernie Taupin, Elton John’s partner; and Richard Madden played John Reid, Elton John’s manager. Dexter Fletcher directed the film to impressive accuracy, depicting Elton John’s life authentically.

The movie perfectly captures the many highs and lows of Elton’s life. The audience feels Elton John’s sorrow and loneliness, but also his joy and success. On the surface, this film tells the story of a famous artist, but it really dives deep into Elton John’s private issues, such as anger management, depression, self medication, and alcoholism. It is important for people to see that even the most successful and famous of people still suffer from extreme personal obstacles.

The soundtrack of the film is a compilation of Elton John’s songs, featuring a variety of cast members, primarily Taron Egerton. Since the movie is all about Elton John’s career, having his music frame the storyline gave the film it’s engaging edge.

The role of Elton John was exceptionally cast. Taron Egerton’s voice is a flawless imitation of Elton John. His outstanding acting illustrated Elton John’s flamboyance, anger, and talent. Egerton’s extravagant costumes also capture Elton John’s remarkable style as he is seen covered in glitter or wearing bright orange wings.

Released on May 31, “Rocketman” is rated R and can be seen in theaters nationwide.
