Mira Costa girls volleyball team competed in the IBVL California State Finals on May 11 against Laguna Beach High School.

Costa competed at North Beach in Santa Monica. Juniors Kate Reilly and Olivia Bakos played in the ones pair, sophomores Natalie Myszkowski and Ava Gallien at the twos, and senior Rochelle Scott and freshman Savannah Standage at the threes.

“Olivia and I have a strong relationship,” Reilly said. “We have played against one another since we were little, but we actually started playing together freshman year. We have really good chemistry and I always know I can count on her.”

This was an important match for the team, not only because it was their State finals, but it was also the winning match that took the team to the program’s 100th consecutive win, according to Reilly.

“Beach volleyball is an ever-growing sport,” Reilly said. “Not every school has the resources and coaches that we do. There isn’t really a “rank” to put teams into.”

The girls volleyball team has won State for the past three years for Costa, strengthening their title as the number-one seeded team.
