Senior Chase Evers continues to make strides in the music industry with the anticipated release of new music.
Evers’ manager, Askia Fountain, and music producer Edgar Vargas helped Evers release her first single “Old Habits” in early 2018. Evers is now planning on releasing her new single “Closure” along with an extended play (EP) composed of five-to-seven original songs in the upcoming months.
“I’m releasing the new single around when school gets out and then I’m releasing the EP mid to late July,” Evers said. “That way we can get some stuff out before I go off to school.”
Most of Evers’ songs on the EP are about her life experiences and relationships. When Evers records her songs in a professional studio, she is already prepared with her original songs. Sometimes, though, the music producers will play a track for her and she will write lyrics and make up a melody on the spot, she said.
“I work with a manager, and he has an entertainment group that I work with,” Evers said. “My manager will set me up with a producer, and then I’ll go to meet the producer and we will record at their studio with their equipment.”
Evers sang as a child and started focusing on song writing when she was in elementary school. She wrote her first song with her dad at the age of seven, but was constantly creating melodies in her head, Evers said. Not only does Evers enjoy writing songs, but she also enjoys other forms of writing, such as poetry.
“I’d say it was middle school when I took music more seriously, and started really writing songs and putting my thoughts and words into music,” Evers said. “That developed a passion for song writing [and] I’ve just been writing songs ever since.”
Evers’ main musical inspirations are The Beatles, Queen and Johnny Cash because she grew up with her parents playing their songs around the house, Evers said. She also finds inspiration in artists such as Olivia O’Brien, Kacey Musgraves and Tame Impala because of their music style.
“It’s definitely hard to open yourself up [when writing music] because it’s a really vulnerable thing to do,” Evers said. “I never thought it was realistic until I started putting myself out there more. It’s definitely hard being vulnerable to the public like that, especially in high school. There’s always the fear of being judged, but it’s something that I’m passionate about. I shouldn’t have to worry about what other people have to say about it.”
Evers posts videos of her singing covers and original music on Instagram, Youtube and Soundcloud to share with her followers. Her goal is to be successful enough in the music industry to make music a full-time job, she said.
“For me, music is my passion. It’s something I love so much, and I like the creative freedom that I have with it,” Evers said. “It’s a way to express myself, it’s an outlet for emotions. There was nothing else that I really felt was my thing, I feel like I really found my niche.”
