Live Jazz Brunch at the Historical Lighthouse Cafe entertains audiences with fun music.
Hermosa Beach’s historic Lighthouse cafe hosted a classical groovy Jazz brunch on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Lighthouse cafe is located on Pier Plaza, and has been around since 1949. The building’s red brick walls gave Jazz fans a homely feel, in addition to a cozy atmosphere.
The event featured the Peter Meyers Orchestra whose mission is to “Preserve American music through public concert performances, educational seminars and commercial recordings.”
The band played 3 lively sets over the course of the evening. The orchestra consisted of a trumpet section, full horn section, saxophones, trombones, and piano playing. Yummy brunch items were also served until 2 p.m.
One song that stood out to me was Party Time by Lee Morgan. This smooth jazz piece consisted of many trumpet solos that captivated the audience’s attention while maintaining a traditional jazz feel throughout the song.
Another captivating piece was a cover of Herbie Hancock’s Maiden Voyage. The exceptional rhythm created a lovely vibe in the room. The saxophone solos also gives the ballad a spooky feel. During the third set, the band covered Billie Mae’s So Rare which was a true stand out. The slow piece had a very romantic feeling to it which appealed to audience members. The mix between the different instruments created an unforgettable jazzy tune.
The Lighthouse is the place to be for live Jazz music in the South Bay. Its fantastic location and inviting live music leave visitors wanting to come back for more.
