Camila Cabello successfully comments on the positive and negative effects of love and relationships with her newest album, “Romance.” Cabello’s honest and genuine description of love in her life is refreshing, making the album an undeniable hit.
Unique vocals from Cabello make the album one-of-a-kind. No song sounds the same on “Romance,” as Cabello shows that she’s had time to experiment with new sounds since her last album release. The catchy, simple beats allow listeners to focus on the extraordinary lyrics, which exemplify the singer’s thoughts regarding love and relationships.
Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao, professionally known as Camila Cabello, was a member of Fifth Harmony from 2012-2016, when she decided to leave the group. In Jan. 2017, Cabello ` her first studio album, “Camila,” and continued to collaborate on songs with Shawn Mendes, Bazzi, Young Thug and more artists.
Released by Epic Records and Syco Music on Dec. 6, “Romance” is Cabello’s second studio album and includes 14 songs. The album also features Cabello’s hit song, “Señorita, which includes a collaboration with Shawn Mendes and was released on June 21, 2019. Cabello’s lead singles, “Shameless” and “Liar” were also released in early September.
“Romance” symbolizes Cabello’s inspiring growth as an artist and young adult, as she shows that she is not ashamed of her desires anymore. Various listeners say that the lyrics in Cabello’s new album are unpleasantly sexually descriptive, especially in the track “Living Proof.” However, the lyrics actually show how confident Cabello has become since the release of her last album. This empowering sense of self-confidence inspires listeners to be more carefree and not apologize for their goals and desires.
Cabello’s vocals have improved tremendously since her last album released almost a year ago. Listeners can vividly hear every single vocal that Cabello sings and her heartfelt emotions behind the lyrics. Her vocal range is extremely impressive, as she has the ability to transition from glass-breaking high octaves to low vocals in a matter of seconds.
One of the best tracks on the album is “Liar,” which exhibits simple lyrics but an immensely catchy chorus. The song also incorporates a strong Latin vibe, which works well for the album and makes the song even more unique. It is clear that although Cabello wants to experiment with different sounds in her music career, she still sticks to her Latin roots, which is refreshing and creative. Overall, the catchy chorus is what makes the song a hit, with outstanding, yet simple vocals and lyrics.
“Dream of You” debuts Cabello’s spectacular vocal range as she expresses the best things about falling in love. This track seemingly talks about Cabello’s new relationship with Shawn Mendes, as the lyrics state that “He’s a shy singer most of the time.” Listeners are able to see how sincere and honest Cabello is about her relationship and the things that make falling in love amazing. The track ties the entire album together, as Cabello states that even though she’s had bad experiences with love, she still has hope for love in the future.
“Used to This” takes a slower approach to love and introduces soft, calm beats to the album. Cabello sings about how her perspective has changed since she began her new relationship, and how she hopes for the relationship to last into the future. The track is short, but simple, and displays extremely emotional and personal lyrics, which makes the album very honest and interactive.
Cabello shows progress in her music career with the release of “Romance,” which features unique vocals and one-of-a-kind tracks. Overall, all of Cabello’s work in the last few months has paid off, as this album is sure to be a hit far into the future.
