Disney officially launched Disney+ after years of teens and young adults begging for the return of original Disney content.
Disney+ offers a variety of exclusive, family-friendly content for users who purchase a subscription. The service’s price is reasonable at $6.99 a month and fair compared to other platforms, but it doesn’t reach a full spectrum of viewers since it’s primarily geared toward a younger audience.
Disney+ is a new streaming service released on Nov. 12 that offers all the movies and TV shows that the Walt Disney company owns, all on one platform. It consists of media not only from Disney, but also Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and 20th Century Fox.
Disney+ includes media that cannot be found on any other streaming platform, as well as new originals. With several throwback series including “Wizards of Waverly Place,” “Good Luck Charlie” and “Hannah Montana,” viewers are reminded of some of their favorite childhood memories. The platform does an excellent job of incorporating different genres for a variety of content.
The platform’s cheap price compared to its competitors makes it a must-have streaming service. Disney+ allows four users of the same account to be watching at once, while Netflix’s most basic plan at $8.99 a month only allows for one person to be watching at a time. This makes Disney+ suitable and cost efficient for large families.
All of Disney’s content shown on Disney+ is PG-13 and below, which makes its service more suitable for a younger audience. This is the one downside to the platform, seeing as adults without children most likely will not purchase it unless they are feeling nostalgic for the good old days.
Very similar to other platforms like Netflix, Disney+ has started to create new original content that is only available to those who purchase the service. The Disney+ originals are nostalgic and entertaining, providing users with some of their favorite actors and actresses. Disney+ also includes a wide variety of media, including many series and movies from Marvel. These films diversify the content appearing on Disney+ and allows there to be something to watch for people with many different tastes in genres.
A noteworthy Disney+ series is “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” which takes a unique and artistic approach on the classic “High School Musical” films. The series is enticing and elevates the characters of Troy and Gabriella through its re-creation of the original story in the unique form of a play. Content like this displayed on Disney+ is high quality and brings back many childhood memories, which makes the service unique.
The overall web design of Disney+ is easy to navigate. The website is simple to use and makes it effortless for viewers to find what they are looking for. The interface lets one customize the images for each profile, which is a fun feature for families.
