Costa basketball will have a shot to bring home some wins at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic.
The Mustangs will be heading to San Diego this winter break to compete in the 30th-annual Torrey Pines Holiday Classic. The tournament will feature 77 high school teams from across California from a variety of divisions. The games will take place Dec. 26-30. A total of 140 games will be played over the course of the five days, with every team guaranteed to play in at least four.
“To prepare for the tourney, we are practicing everyday to improve as a team,” senior Tyler Antrobius said. “We are mostly working on our defense and rebounding as that’s where games are won and lost.”
The event is also a major draw for scouts every year and will include top recruits and Division I athletes, according to the tournament’s website. Past players who appeared in the tournament include NBA stars like Russell Westbrook, Klay Thompson, and Kyrie Irving.
“During the tournament, I am most looking forward to the time we will spend together as a team,” Antrobius said.
After the tournament, Costa will continue with the regular season. While the gym in under construction, Costa will spend this year playing in the Manhattan Beach Middle School gym. The Mustangs are currently 5-4 and will play El Segundo tonight at 7 p.m at MBMS.
“This season, I am looking forward to having a great year with the team as we rack up the W’s,” Antrobius said.
