Uplifting and comforting, Surfaces’s album “Horizons” exceeds listeners’ expectations with its variety of pop, hip-hop, reggae, soul and jazz melodies and an overall upbeat vibe.

“Horizons” spreads positivity and love through its joyous tunes and optimistic lyrics. Every song creates a positive atmosphere, allowing listeners to feel the encouraging ambience in the lyrics. Surfaces does a wonderful job of creating music that is uplifting and bright for listeners.

Surfaces is a Texas based music group, consisting of Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki. Their group officially formed in 2017 when they released the first self-produced album, “Surf.” After the success of their first album, they released a second self-produced album, “Where the Light is,” and became known for their feel-good tunes and lyrics.

“Horizons” is Surfaces’ third self-produced album that consists of twelve tracks totaling in 35 minutes. The songs “Keep it Gold,” “Lazy,” “Good Day” and “Bloom” were released as singles before the release of the album. The group made their TV debut with a performance of “Sunday Best,” their most streamed song currently, on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Mar. 2.

Frank and Padalecki perfectly conjoin their talents together to create new, impressive music. Both of their voices compliment each other, resulting in satisfying vocals blended with soothing guitar sounds and lively, punchy beats.

Surfaces writes their music to portray to  listeners to know that there are brighter days coming. Because of this positive message, the lyrics in every song allows the listener to be inspired by the overall message of the song. The listener is able to take what they need from the lyrics to overcome any negative emotions.

The album’s intro song “Rising” is fun and unique. It contains more of a hip-hop vibe and adds variety to the album. The song  is only instrumentals, comprised of different beats and sounds that blend well together, creating a short and sweet music compilation.

Although “Horizons” contains diverse beats and original lyrics, the songs tend to get repetitive, allowing the songs to seemingly flow together. Surfaces’ past albums also have similar feelings showing that the group is lacking in creativity when it comes to creating completely new sounds and voice.

The lyrics in “Keep It Gold” are very empowering and convey an important message to listeners. This is especially displayed in the lyrics, “Okay we gotta new dawn, new day.” Listeners are comforted by the fact that the future is bright, which is the effect of very impactful lyrics.

Overall, “Horizons” is an exciting and feel-good album that anyone can enjoy. With its positive lyrics and blissful melodies, “Horizons” is sure to bring the listener into a gratified, good mood.

Released on Feb. 28, “Horizons” can be purchased on iTunes for $9.99 and is available on streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and SoundCloud.
