Girls’ varsity has come to a close this season with a hard-fought match. Girls varsity soccer was defeated in overtime 2-1 against Aliso Niguel, on May 12, at Mira Costa. Junior Ellie Weisenberg scored the team’s goal, starting out strong before suffering a tough defeat.
“It was definitely a bummer to lose in the first round after such a strong season,” Senior Rachel Fox commented. “It was really cool to play in Division 1 playoffs for the first time. Everyone gave it their all, and the game could’ve gone either way.”
Girl’s soccer had an incredible bay league season winning eight games and only falling short on two matches, putting the varsity team first in the bay league.
“I personally thought it was a pretty good game and it got very competitive, especially near the end and I could tell both teams really wanted the win,” said freshman Paige Tynan. “But something I think our team needs to work on is starting the game with the same intensity and effort that we gave at the end.”
This was the Mustangs’ last game of the season, but they will start up again next year with another shot at winning the CIF.
“Next year I look forward to having a full normal season,” said junior Natalie Lynch. “And hopefully winning the bay league again!”
