Out of five nominees in the running, senior Audrey Lee has been awarded the accolade of Student of the Year.
Lee is involved in several school activities, including Orchestra, girls’ water polo, Cybersecurity Club, Robotics Club, Mock Trial, Math Club, and Science Olympiad Club, and is the president of five out of her eight total organizations.
“The fact that I’m involved in so much on campus and I’ve really tried to take on more leadership roles in the programs I’m in,” Lee said. “I guess that the teachers, especially my club advisors, took notice of that, and that was what influenced their decision.”
While Lee emerged as the winning candidate in the race for Student of the Year, nominees Natalie Collicutt, Andrew Liu, Nicholas Lee, and Kieran Malik were also considered for the award. According to Lee, the accolade was unexpected, however, and winning the award wasn’t a priority for her.
“I was completely shocked. I didn’t think they were even going to do student of the year—I didn’t think that was on their minds, and it certainly wasn’t on mine,” Lee said. “I do everything with the goal of learning what I can and helping others learn what they can. I’m honored that the teachers have decided to recognize me for that.”
