On Aug. 31, the Mustangs worked for a 3-2 win against Vista Murrieta. The team played 5 intense matches, eventually winning 15-13 in the final set.

Starting off shaky, the team lost its first set 26-19. In the second set, Costa managed to get back in the game, finishing with a 25-16 victory. Costa stayed strong during the third set, but fell again during the fourth. Finally, the girls prevailed in the fifth set, ending 15-13.

“Vista Murrieta had two really strong hitters, so they made it challenging to stay collected and positive during the games,” senior opposite hitter Isabel Wilmot said. “We struggled with our nerves at the beginning, missing some serves and hits here and there, but I think we felt more at ease after the first match, which helped us work together.”

The Vista Murrieta game was the first of the season for Costa girls volleyball. Their next game is an away game against Peninsula High School on Thursday, September 9, followed by the Redondo Union tournament the weekend of September 10.

“I think we need some practice on not getting down on ourselves if we have a bad play,” senior libero Cassidy Antrobius said. “From now on, we can just keep the energy up and do the best we can.”
