“Untold: Caitlyn Jenner” is an inspiring story which follows transgender celebrity, Caitlyn Jenner. The documentary brought light to the life Jenner had before her fame from “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”. There was a good balance between clips of her prior life and interview-style clips which kept the audience engaged since the shots were constantly changing.
This movie had many fascinating elements such as her past life in the Olympics, her transitioning story, and the opinions of her immediate family and the public.
A majority of the documentary was highlighting Jenner’s debut at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and how her love for sports began. Jenner had a passion for sports at a young age, but particularly had a passion for running/track and field. Caitlyn used her biggest competitor as inspiration during his decathlon training.
The last part of the documentary focused on her life post-olympics where she underwent many transitioning surgeries. It included how the media and her family dealt with the sudden change was also shown here.
This documentary did a nice job of incorporating many different vital people in Caitlyn’s life, however it would have been nice to have them interviewed along with Caitlyn. She was the sole narrator which is relevant, but the documentary would have been more enjoyable if more people were speaking.
A favorite aspect of the movie would have to be the information told at the beginning of the documentary such as her athletic career. This is something not many people know about and it was enjoyable to see her life before her fame from “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” The movie could be deceived as an extension of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” , but it dives deeper than that and tells an interesting, enjoyable story.
One cinematic experience that was enjoyable was the runtime of the movie. It was 1 hour and 10 minutes which helped the viewing experience because it was the perfect amount of time spent on each important moment of her life and it wasn’t dragged on too long.
The most important note is how real the movie felt. Caitlyn’s olympic and transition story isn’t commonly known and it was told in a realistic, amusing way. I liked how honest she was in telling her courageous story.
The realness and gaviating topics expressed in this documentary were truly unmatched and the few detected flaws can be easily overcooked by the beautifully written story of Caitlyn Jenner.
The full documentary of “Untold: Caitlin Jenner” is rated PG and can be watched on Netflix.
