On Oct. 14, Costa girls volleyball faced its long-standing rival, Redondo, and finished with a victory to keep its record clean.
“This season is my first [season] on varsity, but I feel so connected with the team,” sophomore middle blocker Rachel Moglia said. “Being able to beat Redondo when it’s only my first season is such a great feeling.”
This match is the second of two league games against Redondo Union High School. Costa finally broke its six-year losing streak with two 3-0 wins, refusing to give up a single set.
“We went into this season knowing this was going to be our year,” senior libero Ellie Geoghan said. “I know my goal for this season was to beat Redondo, and we finally did it.”
The CIF quarterfinals begin on Oct. 27. The team’s first opponent is Village Christian at home. This match will be the fourth against Village Christian, following two losses and one win for Costa in the pre-season.
“This game will decide whether we advance onto the semifinals,” senior outside hitter Kelley Sussman said. “I think we have a good chance against Village Christian, who we have played three times already.”
The Mira Costa varsity team has won a total of 27 games, beginning its league season with a victory on Aug. 31 against Vista Murrietta.
“I think we are entirely ready for the upcoming quarterfinals,” senior defensive specialist Molly Trodd said. “We have had ups and downs as a team, but we got through it and now look where we are.”
