The Costa girls dance team has begun its annual holiday fundraiser to raise money for its team.
Every year during the holiday season, the Mira Costa girls dance team sells holiday wreaths. The wreaths vary in price from $20 to $60, and each wreath is dropped off by a member of the dance team.
“It is such a wonderful experience to be able to raise money through our annual wreath fundraiser,” senior and varsity dance captain Chloe Reinholtz said. “Dropping off wreaths to those who bought from you is a great way for everyone to be grateful and spread holiday cheer.”
Both the JV and varsity teams hold this fundraiser annually. By selling wreaths, the girls are able to help raise money for many different aspects of the dance program, including their coaching staff.
“The fundraiser mostly helps pay for our coaches,” senior and varsity team captain Lauren Jester said. “It allows us to have separate coaches for JV and varsity, and we’re also able to have guest choreographers come in. It also helps pay for our costumes.”
The funds raised by the holiday wreath sales are also put toward attending regional and national dance competitions that the Costa competition team participates in.
According to Reinholtz, the dance team would not be the same without these competitions.
“Competing with my team has made the competition [team] much closer to each other as a whole,” Reinholtz said. “Through competitions, we practice much more frequently than varsity or JV practices, which allows us to spend more time together and allows us to work on more dances.”
