Creativity is something that is celebrated at Mira Costa and should be expressed through letting Seniors paint their parking spots.

With Seniors winning raffles and gaining a parking spot at Mira Costa, many are hoping they will get the opportunity to customize their spots. The white lines and black gravel provide a blank canvas for ideas to become a reality. Having Senior parking is a privilege that not many students get to experience, so when given the opportunity to have a spot, students should get the chance to decorate it to their liking, express themselves and get a chance to make memories that serve as motivation.

The process of the Senior parking raffle requires Seniors to apply for the permit and wait to be randomly picked from a raffle with roughly 300 names. The administration will then pick students and notify the winners over the summer. From there, they have the choice to pay $60 to accept it. If they don’t pay, their spot will be taken.

Schools such as West Orange Highschool, located in Florida, allow their students to personalize their parking spots. Every year the seniors of the school take part in the activity getting a chance to customize their own designs and quotes. The seniors of West Orange Highschool get a chance to start the year off on a strong note.

By giving Seniors the opportunity to embellish their spots it will make the year more special to them. Expressing themselves through art will offer a memory that they won’t forget. Starting off the day seeing artwork and quotes spread across the lot will bring students motivation and a smile on their face as they enter the campus.

Some claim that not all students will clean up after themselves and that it will fall on the administration. Many also question who will wash and clean off all the paint each year. Though the concerns are valid, giving students the opportunity to express themselves is more important than anything. If the school board allows the student to paint their parking spots, the implications of respect will be adhered to.

By having the opportunity to paint their own parking spots in the senior lot, students get the chance to express themselves and create a representation of themselves. As they begin their last year at the school, seniors should be given the opportunity to make a memory that serves as a source of motivation.
