Mira Costa held its first Art Night of the year on Sep. 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. which displayed a variety of posters, drawings and jewelry.
Costa students displayed various student-made artwork across the Mustang Mall. Tables were set up with various artwork such as graphic design posters, paintings and drawings.
“I’m looking forward to broadening my horizons with my art and considering making my own art website to help sell some of my art pieces,” said sophomore Skylar Wills.
Depending on what each artist was trying to sell, everyone took a different approach in how they attracted people to their booths such as signs and tapestries. Artists sold several art pieces including buttons, earrings and necklaces.
“Art Night brings people in at Costa who aren’t apart of the art department and don’t get to see my artwork,” said senior Elsa Rochelson. “I got to share my art with a ton of new people including students, parents, and teachers.”
Art Night students were allowed to collaborate or work separately for the pieces they planned to sell. Only Costa students were allowed to participate in selling their pieces.
“When it comes to creating art, I like to work alone because, for me personally, my art is something that comes from my mind,” said Wills. “I don’t think anyone would be able to express it the way I would imagine it.”
According to gallery goer Evie Salvaggio, Art Night is a great opportunity for students wanting to share their artwork. By sharing their artwork they are also seeing what their fellow classmates are sharing as well.
“I think this is a great way for students to try selling their artwork for the first time,” said Costa art teacher Katherine Heredia. “We want students to engage with the Costa art community while meeting others who also enjoy the arts.”
