Netflix, ‘Outer Banks’ provides viewers with new thrills, adventure, meets expectations
Newly renewed season of Netflix Outer Banks surpasses viewers’ expectations with new plots including adventure, romance, and joyrides.
The new season focuses much more on the overall adventure theme. The scavenger hunt, El Dorado, gets the Pogues once again chasing after mythical lost treasure providing an ultimate enjoyable experience for viewers.
The cast of this season consists of Chase Stokes playing John B; Rudy Pankow playing JJ; Drew Starkey playing Rafe Cameron; Madelyn Cline playing Sarah Cameron; Madison Bailey playing Kiara; and Jonathon Daviss playing Pope. Created by Josh Pate and Jonas Pate, this show blows away viewers with a phenomenal script.
Season 3 starts off right where the show ended at season 2. The Pogues are stranded on an island and are living a quite literal paradise due to the fact that they’re not burdened by a homicidal father, lost gold, or a murder accusation. However, they get rescued momentarily in the first episode and find themselves wrapped up in another lost treasure surpassing any other treasure hunt in previous seasons. The show challenges themes of friendship, romance, and family throughout the season. As the Pogues chase after El Dorado, they experience thrills, near death experience, and incredible treasures.
The additional cast this season was phenomenal and created an immense improvement. The antagonist, Singh, is hands down one of Pate’s strongest villains. The complexity in his character due to his past was unique and creative. THe direction and script of this plot kept viewers engaged and entertained. Creating such a powerful antagonist elevated this show.
Drew Starkey exceeded audience expectations due to his ability to execute a psychotic character who is struggling mentally while struggling to find a balance between family and greed. The character growth of Rafe Cameron was completely unexpected, but a pleasant surprise throughout the show.
However, the overall relationship between the characters, John B and Sarah Cameron, were lacking and missing their passion present in previous seasons. The entire show consisted of the Pogues broken apart and going on thrills and adventures in separated groups. It was disappointing seeing this occur on screen, since “Outer Banks” is known for their Pogues and incredible adventures they experience together. However, though this was not the most ideal way to direct the show, season 3 was still exceptional and kept its audience captivated and engaged.
The soundtrack of “Outer Banks” was a perfect touch to this show. “Calm Down” by Jack Johnson “Hold Me Back” by KB truly directed viewers to feel something. The ambience and aesthetic of this show did not disappoint. Each episode’s yellow tint mixed with exceptional beach music transported viewers to Charleston themselves.
Though the show lacked development and ability to progress through the plot, the last two episodes of this season were astonishing. The cinematography and creativity was shocking and was impossible to tear viewers’ eyes away from the screen.
“Outer Banks” season 3 was released on Feb. 23 and can be viewed exclusively on Netflix.
