Costa’s symphonic band delivered a compelling performance of “The Greatest Showman” by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul on June 1 in the auditorium. The band programs’ annual Pops concert featured a collection of modern pop, rock, and jazz pieces.

“I was particularly impressed with the performance of ‘Enchanted,’ by Taylor Swift,” said
audience member and xylophonist Brian Schultz. “The Swift tempo changes and complexity
require exceptional precision and skill. [Enchanted] was executed flawlessly and sounded
beautiful.”

After intermission, Jazz 1 performed “Bodysnatchers,” by Radiohead, “Torque,” by Alan Baylock,
“On a Clear Day,” by Burton Lane, and “The Incredibles” by Michael Giachinno. Following this,
the marching band and colorguard performed “Paint it Black,” by the Rolling Stones. To end the
concert, each band combined to play “How to Train Your Dragon,” by John Powell.

“[The] concert is a delightful celebration of popular music, where timeless melodies and
contemporary hits take center stage,” said sophomore percussion player Rylan Mendoza.
“Among all the performances, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ was my favorite. For a lot of us, it was
super nostalgic, and took us back to a place in our childhood we could all relate to.”
