Costa Drama/Tech hosted its annual Senior Scenes performance on May 23 at 7 p.m. in the
small theater to present a series of scenes directed by Drama/Tech seniors.
There was no admission to enter; however, donations were encouraged. Before each of the
nine scenes, senior directors talked about the upcoming scene and what they will be doing after
high school.
“We had a sold-out crowd and so many people were there, we had to turn people down,” said
junior Ava Ford, who was featured in “The Lorax.” “It was so wonderful seeing all the support
and love for the seniors.”
The first scene was “Newsies,” directed by senior Ariel Dupin De Saint Cyr, followed by senior
Matalee Brown’s direction of “Rocky Horror Picture Show.” The next scene displayed was “The
Fake Ruby” directed by senior Dean Spurgeon. Before the intermission, Ashley Calza directed
“Waitress.”
“Senior scenes are very emotional because not only is it the drama students’ last performance,
but it’s also the senior technicians, and it’s a long-standing tradition for seniors to ‘mentor’ the
junior class,” said junior light board technician Kelly Berman. “As much as I enjoyed getting
mentored by one of [my] closest friends, it was a sad moment for me, realizing this was my last
show with him.”
Following intermission, the first scene of act two was “The Play That Goes Wrong,” directed by
senior Lia DeFonce-Martini. According to Berman, one of her favorite plays to watch was
DeFonce-Martini’s because of its comedic tone. The next scene was “Grease,” directed by
senior Kara Canty.
“I directed ‘Grease’ because it’s been my favorite movie-musical for a long time, and I wanted to
do a big dance number,” said Canty. “We’ve been having rehearsals since January almost every
Sunday.”
Senior Lizzy Fleming chose “The Lorax” as her scene. Following this was the scene “Wicked,”
directed by senior Teddy Glozman. The last scene was “Matilda,” directed by senior Jack
Searer, in which the actors entered the audience at the end.
“Being in drama has been one of the best experiences [that] I have had at Costa,” said Canty.
“Everyone involved is like a family and so supportive of each other.”
