Love was in the air this past week Mustangs, speaking of love, we’d like to welcome you back to read the most beloved column in our school’s prodigious La Vista newspaper. We hope to bless your eyes with the most accurate and entertaining news of all 16 pages. Perchance.

Starting off, our girls and boys Soccer teams had a fiery start in the first round of CIF. With Ws from both teams, we anticipate more promising results. These matches were nothing short of griddy, coaches would be proud with the three H’s we like to say out there. Hustle, heart, and harm. In the girls match there was obviously a lot of hustle, narrowly beating Millikan in back to back games 2-1, and 1-0. For the boy’s, Evan Hansen played his heart out with 12 saves to win a two game faceoff against Aliso Niguel. Finally there was harm. An especially sour defender on Millikan dragged an unsuspecting star forward, Juju Arensdorf, to the ground nowhere near the ball. There’s simply no room for that in the CIF, and thankfully Costa agreed, handing them their Ls and knocking them out with a first round exit. We hope both teams will continue to push through the playoffs with the fire they started with to make Mira Costa proud.

Speaking of Costa pride, as all students know, the school dances are notoriously the most fun and looked forward to events of the year…that is for the ¼ of the student populace who actually attend these events. Over the years, we have been following the number of students attending the dances, and in our very professional analysis, we’ve recorded a gradual decrease in attendees to every dance but prom. This wouldn’t come as a shock to anyone that has attended these events themselves. It is unfortunate for our school, as we can tell how much planning goes into these events, they just slightly miss the mark as radio versions of songs in a small room doesn’t quite do it for highschoolers these days. The planners might want to consider taking their talents to the Middle School dance planning.

Since Valentine’s day just passed, here’s our starting five. Since Valentine’s day just passed and hopefully you did everything right, here’s our starting five. Best first dates (the blind leading the blind):

  1. A movie (so you don’t need to talk)
  2. A 15 hour car ride with no stops
  3. Library date
  4. Showing and explaining your parleys
  5. The infamous McDonalds drive through (do better)

And that’s the scoop. We hope that all of your romantic ventures bloom and flourish with this coming spring. Tune in to the next issue and as always, please Pardon Our Take.
