
The Mustangs won 5-0, winning with a clean sweep. Mira Costa’s number 1 squad consists of Junior Simone Roslon and Junior Olga Nikolaeva. According to Roslon they came out at the start with defensive intensity and putting up a solid block limiting the Seahawks scoring.
“We knew the key was starting off with good defense and running a clean offense.” Said Roslon. “We limited them on offense and my partner Olga chased down all their shots and dug hard driven balls giving us more opportunities to score.”
They won the first set 25-23. According to Nikolaeva they knew they weren’t going to give up easy ramping up the serve pressure in the 2nd set.
“We had to focus on putting pressure on them in the 2nd set to help limit their scoring.” Said Nikolaeva. “We were much more efficient in this set and that was something we have been working on all week.”
After the loss to Redondo earlier this season 3-2, the Mustangs were looking to avenge their loss. According to Junior Lily Sprague, they were determined to fight back after the adversity they faced. They have been working hard at practice getting them ready for the match up.
“We have always had the capability to beat them and we used the loss to help fuel it.” Said Sprague. “We played today with confidence and we stuck to the game plan leading to the sweep.”
