Hi everyone! Welcome to the month of luck! It is believed by many that their luck will be heightened during the month of March. But what does it really mean to be lucky? Does luck come naturally or do you have to work for it?
If we really think about it, how much of our life is pure coincidence? We didn’t get to choose our parents, where we were born, or what house we grow up in. For the first 18 years of our lives, we don’t make a lot of our own choices. Our parents or guardians make every decision for us, putting our lives the hands of someone else.
At some point, though, our lives become our own. We begin to make our own decisions, from what to eat for dinner to where to go to college. We decide what career we want to pursue, what person we want to be.
There are many who belive in superstitions that will enhance their luck. An example of this is good and bad karma. The belief of karma is that good actions towards others lead to good luck in the future. Would that good luck in the future take place without the good action, or did that good luck really only come because of the prior good action?
At the end of the day, our lives are what we make of it. At our journalism conference, we listened to a lecture from college counselor Bonnie Blackman. She shared a fantastic quote that we thought was really insightful: “It’s not about going to the perfect school, it’s about making your school perfect for you.” This applies to everything in life, not just college. Our lives will be filled with great successes, but we’ll also encounter devastating lows. How we respond to these challenges defines how we choose to live our life. Only we have the ability to create a life that we are proud of.
We believe that luck comes from hard work and dedication. While some people are born with a little luck in their blood (or in their last name), it’s their own actions that allow them to preserve their luck for years to come.
We hope you have a luck-filled March, and we will see you soon in April.
Deuces,
Kit & Sophia
