Editors’ Note: Editors-in-Chief look forward to the year of La Vista

As we sit here, looking to the year ahead of us, nothing hits our staff harder than letting go of our beloved La Vista seniors.

Thinking back to our cub edition, one short year ago, in our previous home of room 6, it was impossible to imagine that the year would go by at such a fast pace. It feels like just yesterday we were preparing for our first edition story conference and growing alongside our young staff.

Now, sitting in room 102, reading over pages for this year’s cub edition, there seems to be a presence missing in the room: our seniors. This overhaul happens every year, and for most of us, it gets harder and harder to say goodbye. It is an eerie feeling to abruptly lose such a vital and charismatic part of our La Vista staff and family.

It is impossible to describe the lasting effect that each editor had on La Vista during production week, something that you really don’t appreciate until it’s gone. From Shaylyn’s calm demeanor and ability to guide us all through stressful times to Casey’s powerful voice that kept the paper running smoothly, each senior added his or her own quirk to LV. Emily and Ari carried the Life section with such speed and ease, while Maddie and Sierra quickly picked up on the art of Sports writing. Courtney led Theme to success and Emma and Nicole drove Photo to an all-time high. Each and every staff writer also earned his or her keep on La Vista.

Though with the loss of these integral LV members comes confidence in our new staff. With a large portion of returning editors, we are unbelievably excited to build on the paper that we have already begun to create. In the next year, we hope to expand our website and online publication while focusing on improving our print edition as well. The next 10 issues will bring ups and downs, rollercoaster rides of emotion and probably some tears, but also complete pride and joy in our beloved paper.

As leaders, we promise to guide our staff with encouragement and love while growing and learning alongside each and every La Vista member.
