Mira Costa’s Marching Band took third place on Sept. 27 in the West Torrance High School South Bay Invitational Field Show at West Torrance High School.
This was Marching Band’s first field show of the year. The band and percussionists won second place and Color Guard placed first, which contributed to Marching Band’s overall ranking in third place.
“I think they performed to the best of their current abilities,” Band Director Joel Carlson said. “We did some of the best stuff we’ve done on the field this season. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
The Marching Band wore capes and hats to incorporate their theme ‘Who Wants to Live Forever?’ into their performance. They hoped his would intensify the performance’s visual appeal.
“We are the special effects,” Carlson said. “They got a reaction from the crowd for some of the visuals that we put into the show, and they attained an element of difficulty that we have not perceived before.”
According to Carlson, the Marching Band is moving toward its goals, which include improving and correcting any mistakes made throughout performances and competitions.
“Everybody is really focused on our show,” Drum Major senior Ryan Cosner said. “I think we’re going to be able to reach more of our goals this year.”
The Marching Band is currently preparing for its competition tommorow at Baldwin High School. The band will continue to perform at football games and has four more competitions left.
“This competition went well,” Band President senior Sarah Kennedy said. “I’m excited for the Baldwin Park competition since we added a closure and a lot of new drills to our show.”
